TX-02 Democratic nominee Sima Ladjevardian has announced she will host a virtual discussion with Houston rapper and activist Bun B on social justice this week.
Topics will include the stakes of the November elections, the fight for racial equality and issues concerning Houston families “in the wake of social unrest.”
The event will take place Wednesday evening before the third night of the Democratic convention.
As a Houston native, Bun B is considered a valued member of the rap genre as a member of the duo UGK, selling millions of albums. He also is a professor at Rice University and is an activist for racial and social justice, recently speaking out on George Floyd and the coronavirus pandemic.
District 2 is among six seats that the DCCC added to its “Red to Blue” program for additional organizational and fundraising support. As a Houston attorney and former Beto O’Rourke adviser, Ladjevardian swiftly won her March primary and has already raised more than $1.1 million by July, showing promise for the party to beat opponent Dan Crenshaw in November.
Ladjevardian has been endorsed by numerous organizations like Emily’s List and AAPI Victory Fund, and prominent figures like former President Barack Obama, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia.
