The left-leaning political organization Working Families Party announced Thursday it would be once again endorsing Jessica Cisneros for Congress.
Working Families Party endorsed Cisneros in 2020 when she came within four percentage points of unseating conservative Democrat Henry Cuellar in Texas’ 28th congressional district.
“I am honored to once again count on their support in my fight to build an America for all of us — no matter who we are, or where we come from,” Cisneros said in a prepared statement. “South Texas deserves a leader that’s going to fight for their dreams as hard as they do — without taking a dime of corporate PAC money. The Working Families Party is back to finish what we started together because they understand the difference progressive policy would make in the lives of South Texas families.”
Working Families Party Southwest Regional Director Carlos Valverde said that even with a Democratic majority, they know there are different shades of blue.
“Jessica Cisneros is a progressive champion, who will unapologetically go to bat for the constituents she’ll be elected to represent,” Valverde said. “Texas’ 28th Congressional District deserves a representative who will not sabotage the interests of the community in service to wealthy campaign donors.”
The announcement comes a few days after Cisneros received an endorsement from Wendy Davis, a former member of the Texas Senate best known for her staunch defense against anti-choice bills. Davis endorsed Cisneros shortly after Cuellar was the only Democrat to vote against the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill in the House that would effectively codify Roe v. Wade into federal law.
