Why we’re thankful this year

Reason 1: You

Thanks for giving us a spin these past few months. Building a media outlet from scratch isn’t easy and is only successful if people check out the content. So to our readers, viewers, and listeners, thank you–truly.

2020 will be the biggest election year of our lifetimes, and for once that’s not hyperbole. It actually will be the most consequential inflection point in modern American history. Part of winning up and down the ballot will be Democrats drowning out conservatives in all media across the state. It’s about not letting them get away with producing fake diversity videos or intentional disinformation campaigns. It’s time for some offense in the information war that is politics, and we’ll need your help.

Reason 2: The Texas Republican Party is sort of a hot mess.

We’re thankful for the rudderless Texas GOP: Leaked strategy memos… A dethroned speaker of the house… A serious diversity problem…A new disgust with the once beloved Chick-fil-A…Anti-immigrant letters. Voters see the chaos, drama, mean-spiritedness, and extreme views that define Trump’s Republican Party in Texas that has a very thin record of legislative accomplishments.

Reason 3: A revival of the Democratic Party

We’re thankful for the emerging progressive movement in Texas. The state and county parties and organizations like Annie’s List and the Texas Organizing Project are building political power and have been for years. This work, together with Beto O’Rourke‘s landmark senate campaign and the changing demographics of the state, has moved Texas from blood red to purple. There is honest potential, based on data not pipedreams, to see once-in-a-generation wins at the ballot box in 2020.

Tune into our Texas-centric coverage next week of the second round of impeachment hearings coming out of Washington– this time in the House Judiciary Committee. Committee members include Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee, Veronica Escobar, and Sylvia Garcia. Things will be interesting, to say the least.

Happy Thanksgiving.
