Wendy Davis raises $3.4 million in third quarter

Democratic congressional candidate Wendy Davis raised $3.4 million dollars in the latest fundraising quarter.

That brings the total fundraising for Davis to $7.8 million this cycle. The average donation was $67 with 95 percent of donations coming from contributors who donated less than $200, according to the campaign.

Davis, a former Texas legislator, is facing off against incumbent freshman Republican Rep. Chip Roy in Texas’ 21st congressional district.

“I’m humbled by the amount of support I’ve received in this race against a dangerous and extreme lifelong political insider in Congressman Chip Roy,” said Wendy Davis in a prepared statement announcing the fundraising. “Seeing thousands of people support our campaign with small-dollar donations is indicative of who’s fueling our campaign and our agenda.”

On Monday, Davis and Roy participated in a debate where candidates clashed on border security and public safety. Last month, the Signal interviewed Davis last month about ICE immigrant hysterectomies and Roy’s early support of herd immunity.

The race for Texas 21 is one of the most competitive races in Texas; Roy won his first election by only three percentage points and has been consistently outraised by Davis on the campaign trail.
