Three Korean Women Injured by Gunman at Dallas Hair Salon

by | May 12, 2022 | Crime, Dallas

On Wednesday, an armed man opened fire at the Hair World Salon in north Dallas, in an area known as the Asian Trade District. Three Korean women were shot and transported to local hospitals, where they are expected to recover.

At a media briefing, Dallas Police Sergeant Warren Mitchell said that the investigation was ongoing and while there was no indication of a motive, a hate crime had not been eliminated. “It just brings more fear to this community,” said Mitchell according to CBS 11. “It’s disturbing that for whatever reason – whether it’s an argument or just a disagreement or whatever – for someone to just run up in there and start shooting.”

Hate crimes against the AAPI community have drastically increased in the past several years. Last year, eight people, including six Asian-American women, were killed after a shooting spree by a man targeting Asian-owned spas in Atlanta, Georgia.A new report from Pew Research shows that 63 percent of Asians in America believe that violence against their community has increased. That same report also notes that 36 percent of Asian adults have changed their daily routine due to fears of being targeted.
