The wind is the latest thing thwarting Trump’s border wall

by | Jan 30, 2020 | Immigration/Border, Policy

High winds knocked over a section of the U.S. border wall on Wednesday. The aftermath, captured on video, quickly went viral and led to plenty of jokes at the expense of Trump’s most famous campaign promise.

The fall took place in El Centro, California, where a section of the border wall was being replaced and improved, according to CNN.

And while the stiff breeze caused only a tiny piece of the border wall to tumble– every inch counts. “The [Trump] administration’s goal was to build almost 600 miles of new wall by the end of this year,” reported the San Antonio Express-News this week. “Before Trump took office, there were 654 miles of border wall. Now there’s 655 miles.”

The Trump administration has fallen behind its moonshot 2020 goal in part because of the difficulty in acquiring private land from border residents.

Trump’s border wall has cost taxpayers roughly $11 billion, or about $20 million per mile.
