Thursday marks the beginning of the long-awaited Texas Tribune Festival, the premiere political and policy conference/soiree/networking extravaganza, now in its 9th year. Newsmakers from inside the state and out, from presidential candidates to national media figures, will be converging on Austin for the three-day event featuring a horde of progressives, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Supermajority’s Cecile Richards, state Reps. Carol Alvarado and Nicole Collier, MSNBC’s Garrett Haake, Alex Wagner of Showtime’s “The Circus,” and many more.
Last year’s TribFest included over 350 speakers, 100 hour-long sessions, and 7,300 attendees. The Tribune plans to make this year’s festival even bigger, with appeal “to nerds, newbies and everyone in between,” says Tribune CEO Evan Smith.
The Texas Signal will be reporting from TribFest all day Friday and Saturday, both for our podcast and news site. We’re sure to hit the panels on guns, the media, immigration, health care, and, of course, the 2020 elections. Beto O’Rourke and Julian Castro are sitting down with Tribune reporters for 1:1 interviews, and most of the Democrats running for U.S. Senate are on a panel together.
