The campaign arm of Texas House Democrats raised $3.6 million in the second-to-last fundraising quarter, between July 1 and September 24.
The Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee announced Monday that the fundraising total is more than double the $1.6 million raised during the first six months of the year.
More than three-fourths of those donations came from contributions of $100 or less, according to HDCC.
“The stakes in this election for Texas are clear,” said HDCC Chairwoman Celia Israel in a prepared statement. “Affordable healthcare, economic security, and a plan to deal with COVID-19 are on the ballot, and achieving those goals starts with flipping the Texas House. That has been our mission from day one, and donors have responded in a big way.”
The news comes the same day as a sizable investment by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a national Democratic group that works to elect Democrats in statehouse races. On Monday, the group announced a $1.3 million investment for Texas House races.
Coupled with last month’s $6.2 million investment by Forward Majority, a national Democratic super PAC, money from outside the state is pouring into Texas as polling consistently indicates a close presidential race.
Democrats are nine seats away from a majority in the Texas House and are targeting roughly two dozen statehouse seats where Beto O’Rourke performed strongly during the 2018 midterms.
A poll last month found Democrats leading by three percentage points in a generic ballot for the statehouse.
