Texas, Harris County Democrats call for resignation of controversial GOP Chair

The Texas Democrat Party and Harris County Democrats are calling for the resignation of Harris County Precinct Chair Carla Richburg after her racist and controversial proposed resolutions for 2022.

“We call on the Harris County GOP to immediately remove Carla Richburg from her Precinct Chair position,” Harris County Democratic Party Chair Odus Evbagharu said in a statement. “The hate-filled priorities list she submitted is indefensible and not legitimate political discourse.”

Richburgs proposed resolutions include anti-LGBTQ, pro-death penalty, anti-vaccine rhetoric also suggests a war against migrants at the border.

“Texas will wage a war against invaders into the Texas border by deadly force and invaders will be considered a terrorist threat to our citizens,” she added. “After minimum warning, violators will be eliminated if they do not retreat.”

Richburg also proposed a racist discriminatory proposal targeted toward the Asian community. For context, according to statistics, hate crimes against Asian-Americans in 2020 increased by 149 percent.

“All Chinese nationals will be considered, as spies, and will be forcibly removed from the United States of America, including all businesses, schools, and universities,” she wrote. “All travel and work visas will be considered null and void.”

Over the weekend, the Harris County Republican Party issued a statement condemning Richburg’s statements, but have been quiet on whether or not she will be removed.

“We unanimously condemn the tone and content of this resolution as being offensive to the values of the Republican Party and promoting certain governmental actions that would be unquestionably unconstitutional,” the HCRP Advisory Board said in a statement.

The Signal reached out to the HCRP and the Texas GOP for comment but have yet to hear back.
