Texas GOP Congressman subpoenaed in Ukraine scandal

Former GOP Congressman Pete Sessions, who once represented Dallas and is now running for a different congressional seat in Central Texas in 2020, is caught up in the explosive scandal that triggered the U.S. House’s impeachment investigation of Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that “a grand jury has issued a subpoena related to Manhattan federal prosecutors’ investigation into Rudy Giuliani, seeking documents from former Rep. Pete Sessions about his dealings with President Trump’s personal lawyer and associates, according to people familiar with the matter.”

The Journal reporter noted on Twitter that “a spokesman for Sessions says he is cooperating with the Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office and will be ‘providing documents to their office related to this matter over the next couple of weeks as requested.’”

Last week, the Journal reported that two Russians who helped Trump’s lawyer attempt to get dirt from Ukraine officials on Joe Biden were arrested and indicted for breaking campaign finance laws. Sessions, according to multiple news accounts, may have had a hand in the financial transactions.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
