Texas Dems announce candidate training program

Texas Democrats and the National Democratic Training Committee announced Tuesday the arrival of a new candidate training program.

The four-week training program will teach candidates about campaign finance, messaging, and managing grassroots support in preparation for municipal elections in 2021 and the 2022 midterm elections. The program will also give trainees a crash course on digital campaigning in the age of coronavirus.

More than 145 potential candidates have already signed up, according to Texas Democrats.

In a statement, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa said the program would help hold Republicans accountable for the deadly winter storm.

“The Texas Democratic Party and National Democratic Training Committee know that winning elections has never been more crucial than it is right now,” Hinojosa said. “That’s why we created an innovative candidate training program to ensure that our candidates have the skills and resources necessary to win up and down the ballot in November.

National Democratic Training Committee Founder and CEO Kelly Dietrich said the program will help candidates up and down the ballot.

“We are proud to stand with these incredibly talented individuals who are running to make a difference in their communities,” she said. “The tools we will teach them throughout this series of trainings will set them on a path for victory.”

The training program kicks off Tuesday evening. Tuesday is also the last day Texans have the opportunity to sign up.
