Paxton’s comment follows the surfacing of a video showing Phelan slurring his words while leading the Texas House.
Texas Republican infighting has reached new heights as we approach the end of the legislative session. In a statement posted to twitter on Tuesday, indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called on Texas Speaker Dade Phelan to resign. It is important to note that Ken Paxton himself is indicted for securities fraud and suffering from his own various legal and ethical woes.
The AG statement cite’s a video showing the Republican Speaker slurring his words while presiding over his chamber. The video begun to go viral after former state Representative Jonathan Stickland (R- Bedford) tweeted the video.
While Phelan defenders are quick to chalk this up to intraparty fighting – the Speaker’s office still hasn’t released a statement on this situation raising eyebrows. During his short tenure as Speaker, Phelan has passed an extreme agenda drastically departing from the moderate approach of previous Texas House speakers.
