Former Texas governor and Energy Secretary Rick Perry is refusing to turn over Ukraine-related documents in the impeachment inquiry of President Trump. U.S. House committees had subpoenaed Perry and gave him until Friday afternoon to comply.
House Democrats have vowed to treat efforts to block the inquiry as further evidence obstruction by the White House. Perry refusal to turn over the documents could end up contributing to the case for Trump’s impeachment. Perry himself could face criminal penalties
Perry announced his intention to resign on Thursday.
“Rick Perry will be remembered as the king of pay-to-pay politics, gaffes, and shallow intellect — and even he couldn’t stand the stench of the Trump Administration’s corruption,” said Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Manny Garcia in a statement Friday morning. “Add ‘Secretary of Energy’ to the list of Rick’s failures.”
