Republicans’ “Let’s go Brandon” lovefest continues

The Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas is catching some heat after a video went viral on social media showing people in the pews of the church repeatedly chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” at the “Reawaken America” conference on Nov. 13.

According to church officials, the chanting didn’t occur during their services, and are separate from the non-denominational church’s views.

“This past week, Cornerstone Church facilities were used by an outside organization. Cornerstone Church is not associated with this organization and does not endorse their views,” Cornerstone Church said in an email to the Signal.

Additionally, Lead Pastor Mike Hagee released this statement on Thursday

“Last week I allowed an event to be held at Cornerstone Church by an outside organization. Regrettably, the organization was not properly vetted. It was not appropriate to allow this event at our church. The Church is not associated with this organization and does not endorse their views.”

Furthermore, Hagee also said “ I was invited to welcome the crowd where I thanked veterans for their service and thanked the crowd for their commitment to their faith.  I deeply regret, and ask forgiveness, for what took place in the Cornerstone sanctuary as a result of my oversight. In the future, Cornerstone Church will ensure that organizations using our facility are an appropriate reflection of our mission and vision.”

Nevertheless, the conservative-led conference featured former Trump Security Advisor Michael Flynn and My Pillow Guy Mike Lindell.

“This is not a church service. It’s a political rally. It’s also a prime example of why more people are turned off by and leaving organized religion,” Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, added on Twitter.

According to reports, the “Let’s Go Brandon” catchphrase comes from a post-win interview professional race car driver Brandon Brown did after the NASCAR Xfinity Series race.

At one point, the crowd chants “Fuck Joe Biden” where then the NBC Sports Reporter interviewing Smith said the fans were saying “Let’s Go Brandon.”

Consequently, the conservative catchphrase has gained national attention and state representatives including Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz.

Additionally, the conservative catchphrase comes at a time when President Joe Biden has the lowest approval rating so far in his 10 month presidency. Only time will tell if his approval rating will improve after the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill.
