Rep. Ina Minjarez announces run for Bexar County Judge

State Rep. Ina Minjarez (D-San Antonio) announced Monday she would be running for Bexar County Judge.

“Over the course of my career, I’ve worked to support working families, small businesses, seniors, our everyday neighbors,” Minjarez said in a video announcing her bid.

Minjarez is among 21 house members who have chosen to not run for re-election. In Minjarez’s case, her retirement was foretold when she formed an exploratory committee in October after Bexar County Judge Nelson W. Wolff announced his retirement.

Peter Sakai, a San Antonio district judge, was the first candidate to announce his campaign for the county’s top executive office.

Even after redistricting, District 124 represented by Minjarez remains a safe Democratic seat.
