Barack Obama is throwing his weight behind more than a dozen Texas Democratic candidates vying to flip congressional and state House seats.
The former president released his first wave of 2020 endorsements on Monday in a Medium post that included endorsements for candidates around the country.
In Texas, eight congressional candidates were endorsed. They include Sima Ladjevardian (TX-02), Wendy Davis (TX-21), Candace Valenzuela (TX-24), Gina Ortiz Jones (TX-23), Sri Preston Kulkarni (TX-22), Adrienne Bell (TX-14), and incumbents Lizzie Fletcher (TX-07) and Colin Allred (TX-32).
Obama also endorsed 19 candidates running in the Texas House, now only nine seats away from a Democratic majority.
“I’m proud to endorse this diverse and hopeful collection of thoughtful, empathetic, and highly qualified Democrats,” Obama wrote in a prepared statement. “Together, these candidates will help us redeem our country’s promise by sticking up for working class people, restoring fairness and opportunity to our system, and fighting for the good of all Americans — not just those at the top.”
