Another poll in a battery of them shows the 2020 presidential race to be competitive in Texas.
A University of Texas at Tyler poll released this week shows former Vice President Joe Biden and former congressman Beto O’Rourke with very slim leads over President Trump in the Lone Star State. Both Democrats are solidly winning over independents.
Only 40 percent of registered voters in the state approve of Trump’s job performance.
Also noteworthy was the poll’s look at opinions on gun safety measures. 60% of Republicans “strongly support” or “support” a law allowing law enforcement to take away guns from people who are dangerous. And more than 80% of Republican voters support background checks “for all potential gun buyers.”
The poll was taken after the third Democratic presidential debate Sept. 13-15.
