Texas Democrats are making it clear that President Trump, after stoking and inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, will face consequences.
Yesterday, several Texas Democrats announced they were supportive of removing President Trump from office either through the 25th Amendment of impeachment. With reports indicating that Vice President Pence will not invoke the 25th Amendment, another impeachment appears imminent, and even more Texas Democrats have indicated they support that outcome.
Second term Reps. Lizzie Fletcher and Colin Allred announced they were both in favor of impeachment. Elected in 2018, both were instrumental in Democrats retaking the house. On the House floor on Wednesday evening, Allred stepped in to try and “defuse” an altercation while Rep. Conor Lamb was speaking. Allred is a former NFL linebacker who played with the Tennessee Titans.
Earlier this morning, Rep. Al Green held a press conference to address why he is in favor of impeachment. “We cannot allow the instigator of the turmoil, and the person who has engendered the crisis to go unaccountable,” he said in regards to impeachment.
Articles of Impeachment drafted by Reps. Ted Lieu, Rep. David Cicilline and Rep. Jamie Raskin currently has 130 co-sponsors. An impeachment vote in the House appears slated for next week.
