A stunning survey from Public Policy Polling shows voters are unhappy with how Trump is handling the potential health crisis presented by the coronavirus.
The poll found more than half of registered voters disapprove of the Trump Administration’s handling of the coronavirus outbreak by a 9 point margin, 55-42.
By a 20 point margin, the poll also found that voters are less likely to vote for Trump because of his handling of the virus. That margin grows to whopping 32 when polling independents.
Trump, who has consistently downplayed the threat of the virus because it presents an inconvenient political moment for him, is also underwater for his messaging about coronavirus.
“Voters take the virus a lot more seriously than the president does,” Public Policy Polling wrote. “Only 8 percent of voters agree with Trump’s claim that the virus is a Democratic hoax, while 82 percent think the virus is real. Only 16 percent of Trump’s own voters agree with him that the virus is a hoax.”
The poll comes after news of two additional coronavirus cases being confirmed in Harris County on Thursday — a day after a Fort Bend County man was also diagnosed.
