In a press conference on Wednesday, House Democrats threatened to treat any attempts by the White House to block the inquiry — like a refusal to hand over subpoenaed documents— as “further evidence of obstruction of justice.” The goal: prevent the Trump administration from dragging out the impeachment inquiry.
While House Democrats are moving full speed ahead with an investigation of Trump’s abuse of power, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made it clear they are also focused policy, including lowering prescription drug prices.
Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee is launching a $2 million effort to defend the president against impeachment and Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is getting in on the action. He is holding an anti-impeachment rally in Houston on Thursday, according to reporter John Moritz.
Team Trump is expected to call on U.S. Rep. Lizzie Fletcher of Houston “to drop the impeachment inquiry against President Trump and get back to work for Texas.” Fletcher has supported an investigation but not gone all the way to full impeachment.
As for the target of the impeachment inquiry himself, the president appeared rattled on Wednesday. He continued to rapid-fire lash out against House Democrats on Twitter. Not long after Pelosi’s Wednesday press conference, he tweeted “the Do Nothing Democrats should be focused on building up our Country, not wasting everyone’s time and energy on BULLSHIT.”
The RNC admitted something many already know. “Our goal is to cause chaos,” a spokesperson said of the anti-impeachment campaign.
