Lina Hidalgo, Jessica Cisneros land on Forbes ‘30 Under 30’ list

Two Texas political figures were featured on Forbes’ latest “30 Under 30,” an annual list that highlights young entrepreneurs, leaders, and celebrities.

Jessica Cisneros, 26, a 2020 congressional candidate in South Texas, and Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, 28, were among those featured in the law and policy section.

Hidalgo was elected as Harris County Judge in 2018 in a stunning upset that saw the defeat of Judge Ed Emmett, a Republican incumbent who held the position for nearly a dozen years. Hidalgo is the first immigrant and the second-youngest person to serve as Harris County Judge. Her election has brought a wide range of progressive changes to the county, most notably historic bail reform.

Cisneros has been making headlines this year for challenging conservative Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar in South Texas. Her grassroots campaign, which champions Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, has drawn plenty of comparisons with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. If elected, she would be the youngest woman to serve in Congress.
