When it comes to the 2020 election, indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton can’t stop lying. And in a new speech, Paxton maintained without evidence that widespread voter fraud was responsible for making Joe Biden president.
According to The Houston Chronicle, Paxton was speaking before the Fulshear-Katy Chamber of Commerce last week when he made the incendiary claims. He derided his usual targets, including the Biden Administration, and then veered into one of his favorite topics: voter fraud.
Paxton accused “liberal county judges” of attempting to tamper with votes in Texas. Donald Trump won Texas in 2020, albeit by a margin of just 5.5 percent.
“I know what was going on with these mail-in ballots,” said Paxton. “They needed to first figure out how many votes they needed for it, and then they looked at the mail-in ballots to change the election. And that’s what they did.”
Paxton offered no proof of any election meddling beyond his deranged rhetoric. In fact, after the 2020 election, his own office spent over 20,000 hours and $2.2 million investigating claims of voter fraud. The election integrity office then closed just three cases.
The pervasive myth of voter fraud in 2020 has been a consistent theme for Paxton ever since Joe Biden became president-elect. After all, this is the same attorney general who filed a bonkers lawsuit with the Supreme Court attempting to toss out the electoral votes of four swing states. Paxton was also a speaker at the rally before the Insurrection on January 6, one of many Texas Republicans who contributed to an attempted coup.
Paxton has been fighting against releasing his correspondences in the days leading up the Insurrection. Five newspapers in Texas banded together in alleging Paxton was violating an open records law by not providing his communications. Last week, the Travis County district attorney officially ordered Paxton to produce his communications or risk a lawsuit. Paxton has yet to produce the records.
