A new poll released Monday by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs shows a first-place tie between former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders.
The poll shows Biden receiving 22.5 percent of support from likely Democratic primary voters and Sanders receiving 22.1 percent.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren is also within striking distance at 18.3 percent, followed by Mike Bloomberg at 13.4 percent.
Monday’s poll is the third survey this month showing Sanders and Biden in a tight race for the Lone Star State. National polling, however, shows the Vermont Senator leading Biden by low double-digits.
The same poll also confirms what most surveys have shown is motivating primary voters in their choice for the nomination: a candidate who can defeat Donald Trump. Of those polled, 57 percent said the most important trait in their preferred candidate is winning against the incumbent president.
Early voting in Texas is already underway. The last day to vote early is this Friday. Texas will join more than a dozen other states in voting on Super Tuesday next month on Tuesday, March 3.
