Impeachment case uses Texas Biden bus incident as proof of Trump inciting violence

On the second day of the Trump impeachment trial, Rep. Stacey Plaskett introduced evidence about the former president inciting violence that was familiar to many in Texas.

Speaking in front of the Senate, Plaskett recounted a harrowing scene from October that occurred on I-35 near San Marcos. Video from the event shows multiple trucks and SUVs with Trump flags attempting to force a Biden campaign bus off the highway. The Biden campaign would go on to cancel several events with the bus. In a tweet, Trump referred to these supporters as “patriots.”

“I ask you to consider his supporters tried to drive a bus off a highway in the middle of the day to intimidate his opponents campaign workers and his response was to tweet a video of the incident that had fight music, joke about, and call those individuals in that incident ‘patriots,’” said Plaskett.

In the aftermath of the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol several Texas Democrats have reflected on the bus incident. Wendy Davis, who was on the bus, told the Texas Tribune what occurred in Texas was a harbinger of future violence.

“This is a symptom of a broader problem that is not going away. This truly is the birth of a domestic terrorist unit. And I think that the FBI and local law enforcement need to see it this way,” said Davis to the Tribune.
