One of the Democrats running to unseat Houston congressman Dan Crenshaw launched her first ad on Friday to air on broadcast, cable, and streaming services over the next three weeks.
In the ad, Sima Lajdevardian —a mother of two, former advisor to Beto O’Rourke, and breast cancer survivor— says, “If I can beat cancer, together we can beat the Congressman who wants to take our healthcare away,” referring to Crenshaw.
She recounts her personal struggle with the health care system.
“I’m a breast cancer survivor and one day after my radiation treatment, I was feeling extremely nauseated,” she says. “I didn’t have my insurance card. I went to the first pharmacy to get one pill, and that one pill cost $1000. That is just absolutely unacceptable.”
Before potentially taking on Crenshaw, Ladjevardian has to win the Democratic primary on March 3. She is running against Navy veteran Elisa Cardnell and Travis Olsen, who worked in the Department of Homeland Security. Early voting begins Feb. 18.
