Conservative Wesley Hunt will face incumbent Democrat Lizzie Fletcher this fall in a fight for a Houston congressional seat.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee came out of the gate following Tuesday night’s result with a memo hailing Fletcher’s chances against Hunt.
Fletcher, the memo said, is in an “excellent position to win re-election in this urban and suburban west Houston seat. Trusted, visible and well-liked by Houstonians across the political spectrum, Congresswoman Fletcher will face unknown conservative Republican Wesley Hunt.”
”In contrast to Wesley Hunt’s growing liabilities, Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher is building a bipartisan record of achievement in Congress,” the memo added.
Fletcher helped pass a crucial bill in the House to lower prescription drug costs and worked across the aisle to address flooding concerns. Last year, she voted against the fracking ban.
“Overall, we need to be leading the conversation on what our energy future looks like from this district and from this community, because — I keep saying it, but it’s true — it’s the energy capital of the world,” Fletcher told the Houston Chronicle last year.
