Well, folks, we’re here. We have entered the phase of a national campaign’s waning weeks where media outlets across the country have begun to focus on one of their narrative windows: the closing argument.
While President Donald Trump continues to tool around the country, doing a dozen rallies in the week since he returned to the campaign trail after his Covid diagnosis, issuing increasingly unglued pleas for his own attorney general to lock up his political opponents and ducking questions about a Chinese bank account he’s never disclosed as required by law, former Vice President Joe Biden and his running mate, Senator Kamala Harris, are staying disciplined and sticking to the message.
They’re also calling in the best closers they’ve got, on the air and on the ground, to rid our nation of what I like to call the Cognitive Dissonance Presidency and they’re going big while doing it.
As Biden finalizes his preparations for the final (God willing) debate of the cycle, his running mate will be joined at a drive-in rally in Philadelphia by a young man we’re told is an excellent speaker with a big future, Barack Obama.
That’s right, the magic is back folks. If you remember President Obama’s epic speeches at rallies for Stacey Abrams in the final days of the 2018 campaign or really any other big moment that has called upon his gifted oratory, you know we’re in for something special coming from the City of Brotherly Love. No one knows Biden the way Obama does, as a governing partner on the biggest stage in the world, and no one in politics loves and reveres him as much.
Keep the tissues close, this one could get emotional.
And the timing, oh the timing. It’s absolutely perfect. Just as President Obama hits the trail for the Democratic ticket, the Biden/Harris team seems to have found it. Every campaign needs one, and for a long time recapturing the soul of our nation was it. But last night during the World Series, folks saw it: The Message.
In one of the most beautiful and impactful ads of recent memory, gorgeous shots of America are set to a quaint rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, as the voice every Texan wishes we had, Sam Elliott, delivers a closing argument that will leave you shook.
“There is so much we can do, if we choose to take on problems and not each other.”
That’s it, as the kids say. That’s the message.
No noise, no negativity. In these 60 seconds, Scranton Joe taps into the politics of Hope and Change and appeals to our better nature as Americans.
“Joe Biden doesn’t need everyone in this country to always agree. Just to agree we all love this country, and go from there.”
There are 13 days left in this election. Vote, donate, volunteer. But above all, please believe. Keep the faith. Carry this message of love for country with you these last two weeks and we will do what Biden and Harris have been fighting for. We can save the soul of our nation.
