Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced Tuesday that residents would receive $100 if they get vaccinated at a Harris County Public Health site.
Hidalgo said residents will receive the money “no strings attached” if they are unvaccinated.
Residents can schedule an on-demand COVID-19 vaccine appointment online. The vaccine itself is free and it costs nothing to make an appointment.
The $100 cash card offer only lasts until the end of August, so Houston area residents have only two weeks to stop by.
The incentive program comes as Harris County and the state of Texas are battling another surge in Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations. Newly confirmed cases are at their highest point since January 2021.
So far, 63 percent of Harris County residents are already vaccinated according to health officials who are also urging residents to minimize contact to slow the spread of the virus.
