Jurors found former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin guilty on all three charges in the killing of 46-year-old George Floyd on April 20.
Chauvin was found guilty of third-degree murder, second-degree murder and manslaughter.
He was charged after he was seen on video with a knee to Floyd’s neck for nine and a half minutes in May 2020.
The jury deliberated for 10 hours and reached a guilty verdict unanimously.
The Hennepin County jury was composed of five men and seven women, half of them identified as minorities.
The twelve jurors were made up of two multi-racial women, one in her 20’s and the other in her 40’s. Three black males, two in their 30’s and one in his 40’s. Two white males, one in his 20’s and one in his 30’s. Four white women, one in her 40’s and three in their 50’s and one black woman in her 60’s.
Floyd was raised in Houston, Texas with his mother and four siblings. He leaves behind five children.
