Even Ted Cruz has issues with Trump asking foreign countries to investigate rivals

Sen. Ted Cruz is distancing himself from comments made by President Trump asking China to investigate the Biden family.

In a CBS News “Face the Nation” appearance, Cruz was asked whether the president’s comments were appropriate.

“I- look, of course not,” Cruz said. “Elections in the U.S. should be decided by Americans and it’s not the business of foreign countries, any foreign countries, to be interfering in our elections.”

Cruz went on to say that he believed it would “make a lot of sense” for Rudy Guliani to testify before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary (last week, news broke of federal prosecutors investigating Giuliani for allegedly violating lobbying laws in his dealings with Ukraine).

Despite his condemning the president’s comments, Cruz made sure to continue defending Trump and told the CBS News host that claims of a quid pro quo were unfounded.

Earlier this month, Trump publicly asked China and Ukraine to investigate the Bidens during an interview outside the White House. In the interview, Trump was pressured about a phone call where he asked the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son Hunter. “They should investigate the Bidens,” Trump said, doubling down. “Likewise, China should start an investigation into the Bidens, because what happened in China is just about as bad as what happened with Ukraine.”

Cruz is the only Texas Senator to comment on the president’s remarks on China. Cornyn, who has been the lead cheerleader defending Trump over his dealings with Ukraine, has yet to speak on the fact that President Trump, for the second time, has asked a foreign country to investigate one of his political opponents.

A FOX News poll last week showed a majority of Americans support removing the president from office.
