Election Night was tough for left-wing Democrats in Texas

As the final votes are being counted, Super Tuesday proved to be a difficult night for some of the bolder progressives running in the Lone Star State.

Former Vice President Joe Biden, a moderate, defeated democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders by a 3 point margin, an unexpected defeat that shook up forecasts made for the state.

On the U.S. Senate, it’s still unclear which of the two, State Sen. Royce West or progrsesive activist Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, will join MJ Hegar in the runoff.

In a South Texas race considered a bellwether for progressive politics, conservative Democrat Henry Cuellar defeated AOC-endorsed challenger Jessica Cisneros by roughly four percentage points —  a closer race than many expected.

In Houston, District Attorney Kim Ogg handily defeated leftwing challenger Audia Jones. In Austin, however, progressive challenger José Garza has made the runoff with incumbent Margaret Moore.
