Donna Imam announces run against Rep. Lloyd Doggett

Donna Imam, a computer engineer who ran for Congress in 2020, announced Monday she was running for Congress in Texas’ 37th congressional district.

TX-37 is one of two new congressional seats afforded to Texas following redistricting.

It is also the same seat pursued by Rep. Lloyd Doggett, a left-leaning Austin Democrat who has served in Congress since 1995 and who is not seeking re-election in the district he currently represents, TX-35.

In a news release, Imam said she has lived in the district for more than 15 years, where she worked for Motorola, Dell, and served as the president of a nonprofit that provides free career-based training and education.

Imam ran against Republican Rep. John Carter in 2020 and came within 9 percentage points of unseating him after raising more than $1 million for the bid.

“Congress needs leadership in science and technology to advance the next generation of innovation,” Imam said in her announcement. “I’ll use my expertise in engineering to deliver solutions that work for all of us.”
