Health care remains a top concern of Texans, like all Americans, in their daily lives – and in politics.
One of the most popular parts of the Affordable Care Act is the provision prohibiting insurance companies from denying people coverage for a pre-existing medical condition, like cancer or asthma.
Sen. Cornyn, who is up for re-election in 2020, has voted to repeal the ACA and is not committed, Democrats say, to protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions.
Democrats are pouncing.
- “Texas families deserve a Senator with the guts to stand up and push back when D.C. tries to attack our health care and pre-existing conditions protections,” MJ Hegar, a Democrat challenging Cornyn for senate, said in a recent statement.
- The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is running a digital ad campaign, first reported by the Texas Tribune, this weekend highlighting Cornyn’s previous positions.
- The Texas Democratic Party said this week “Cornyn says that he is against rolling back protections on patients with pre-existing conditions. However, he has repeatedly refused to oppose the Republican lawsuit that would rollback rules protecting people with conditions.”
The state party has launched a multi-million dollar war room to expose Cornyn’s record on health care and many other issues.
