Chip Roy on radio show: My message to Texans is to take the election seriously

GOP Rep. Chip Roy took some time out of his busy schedule to appear on right-wing radio this week to bash Democratic figures and discuss his reelection bid.

On The Joe Pags Show earlier this week, Roy expressed that he isn’t worried about the extensive Democratic outreach in Texas.

“We need to be cognizant of the reality that Democrats believe they can flip Texas,” Roy says. “And if we don’t do what we’re supposed to do, we could very well lose the seats that we aren’t supposed to lose.”

In response to big cities leaning blue in elections, Roy responded that it’s hard to tell if this is a long-term phenomenon, considering the issues at play right now, such as “safety, security, communities, law enforcement being able to do their job, not having lawlessness running amuck like Seattle, Chicago and New York.”

Roy also had a lot to say about his Democratic opponent and former state Senator Wendy Davis: “She keeps showing up because she doesn’t have anything else to do,” Roy laughed. “Her job choice was choosing either to run Planned Parenthood or take another shot to run again for elected office.”

Roy went on to suggest Davis is “a radical, Marxist leftist” who doesn’t support law enforcement or securing the border, and is in favor of sanctuary cities and the Green New Deal, all “swamp tactics” used by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi and Davis since “they want to run on social justice.”

According to the Cook Political Report, the Roy-Davis race switched the 21st congressional district from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up,” putting the Roy campaign on notice. The Davis campaign has raised more than $4.4 million, which is 75 percent more in campaign donations than Roy, the Republican incumbent.

Also in the radio show, Roy criticized school systems for being “at war with our values,’ and platforms like Twitter giving favors to selected audiences in regards to information about COVID-19: “I want free flow of ideas and competition.”

Regardless of the criticism, Roy did slip in cautious words to supporters on the show: “We need to make sure Texans show up.”
