Gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke is slated to give the keynote speech at this year’s Texas Democratic Convention.
The convention will occur on Friday and Saturday and see Democrats from around the state gather at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas to elect leadership and update the party platform.
O’Rourke will give the keynote speech at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Other Democrats are also slated to speak, including Reps. Joaquin Castro, Eddie Bernice Johnson, and Sheila Jackson Lee.
Additionally, attendees will hear speeches from progressive congressional nominees Greg Casar and State Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who won their primaries in safe Democratic districts and are set to become the newest members of Texas’ delegation to Congress.
Democrats will also hear from Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa, who has led the state party since 2012 and now faces two other candidates vying for the seat, Kim Olson and Carroll Robinson.
The Texas Democratic Convention occurs every two years. The next convention will take place in El Paso.
Last month, Texas Republicans held their own convention where they adopted a far-right platform that opposes same-sex marriage and believes the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.
