Beto O’Rourke will be joining former Vice President Joe Biden on the campaign trail Wednesday evening.
The former El Paso Congressman will be headlining a virtual “Turn Texas Blue” event with the presumptive nominee. The event begins at 5:15 p.m. and will focus on Texas students.
The event suggests Biden is trying to rally young voters in the Lone Star State, where the latest poll this month shows the Democratic candidate leading several percentage points behind. Polls last month showed Biden and Trump evenly matched.
O’Rourke helped deliver one of the 2020 Presidential primary’s most exhilarating moments with his endorsement of Biden in Dallas on the eve of Super Tuesday.
In 2018, O’Rourke nearly toppled reputed Zodiac killer Ted Cruz in Texas’ U.S. Senate race by driving historic levels of youth turnout in the state. As Donald Trump’s approval ratings in Texas continue to inspire panic in the state and national GOP, O’Rourke may be able to help Biden close the gap and become the first Democrat to capture Texas’s electoral votes since Jimmy Carter accomplished that feat in the aftermath of Watergate in 1976.
