A new Morning Consult poll released Thursday shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading President Trump by one percentage point, 48-47.
A poll by the same group in September found the two candidates statistically tied.
The most recent Morning Consult poll also shows a tight race for U.S. Senate, with Sen. John Cornyn leading MJ Hegar by five percentage points — about half the margin of another Morning Consult poll earlier this month.
The new polling comes as early voting in Texas is in full swing. As of Wednesday, 5.8 million Texans have cast their ballot through the mail or in-person early voting. Incredibly, that number represents almost two-thirds of all the votes cast in 2016. Friday, Oct. 30 is the last day of early voting in Texas.
Biden has invested $6 million into TV airtime in Texas, more than any other Democratic candidate in the last 25 years. Biden continues to hold an advertising advantage in battleground Texas media markets, including San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas where several congressional seats and dozens of statehouse seats are up for grabs.
Still, Democrats continue to pressure the former vice president into visiting the state. Biden has not campaigned in Texas since the March primaries.
If Biden sees victory in Texas, he would be the first Democrat to win the state since Jimmy Carter.
