Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorses Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez Senate bid

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced Friday that Courage to Change, her newly formed PAC, was endorsing U.S. Senate candidate Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez in her bid to replace Sen. John Cornyn.

“It’s time to elect a progressive majority in Congress accountable to strong, grassroots movements that push support for issues like Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, racial justice, and more,” wrote Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter where she announced several all-woman congressional endorsements.

Ocasio-Cortez created the PAC in January to help elect candidates to Congress that rejected lobbyist money and shared her leftwing values.

“I have spent my career fighting against corporations with powerful lobbyists by mobilizing working people, and I believe in the power of us to create change,” Tzintzún Ramirez said in a statement reacting to the news.

The endorsement comes days after polling showed MJ Hegar leading the field with 22 percent of support from self-identified Democratic primary voters. The rest of the candidates, including Tzintzún Ramirez, polled between 1 to 3 percentage points away from each other, meaning second place is anyone’s to grab in a race that is likely heading to a runoff.
