Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday said something the head of the visitors’ bureau would have been fired for.
“You’re welcome in Texas as long as you never forget why you fled a liberal state,” he declared on Twitter. “Texans expect less government, lower taxes & more freedom. Newcomers must keep it that way.”
Welcoming words from a Governor of a state where 1,000 people a day move. What an incredible ambassador for the Texas brand – which, by the way, is actually welcoming and diverse.
Abbott, like his buddy President Trump, is doing some false advertising.
Republicans in Texas don’t actually lower taxes. They proposed a tax increase earlier this year.
They don’t want real freedom for all. They passed a law prohibiting gay couples from adopting and clamp down hard on reproductive rights.
And less government? The state government under his reign has relegated “local control” to the dustbin of history.
The governor is annoyed so many Californians are moving to Texas. But many are conservative; the ones who aren’t help threaten his GOP majority.
With or without Californians, Texas is a changin.’ All the state’s major cities have turned bluer on Abbott’s watch, and the Lone Star State is now a battleground, courtesy of Trump. So the old guv, you see, has been under a lot a strain lately.
Ignore the governor, newcomers. Welcome to Texas.
