A Note To Our Readers

Fellow Readers,

I started Texas Signal back in 2019 to fill a critical gap in the Texas political landscape. For years, Republicans fought an open war against the truth in Texas. Right-wing media has unfortunately flourished in the state with little to no accountability.

Over the last four years, we’ve done some vital work such as building the largest, BIPOC-led progressive newsroom in the country, exposing right-wing disinformation in Texas, holding politicians like Greg Abbott accountable for their racist fundraising practices, and amplifying the voices of a new generation of progressive Texans and elected officials.

However, this previous election cycle demonstrated just how far behind we are to Republicans in Texas when it comes to essential infrastructure–on ALL fronts.

After much reflection and plotting with our staff, advisors, and mentors, we are excited to not only keep pushing ahead at Texas Signal, but to double down on our unabashed progressive media entity we’ve all worked so hard to build over the past four years.

A key part to our next stage of growth is the hiring of our new and first CEO, Rebecca Marques. Rebecca was the Coalitions Director for Beto for Texas. Prior to that, she was the Texas state director for the Human Rights Campaign. Rebecca and I worked closely on Beto’s gubernatorial race and we learned some of the most difficult lessons that Texas politics have to offer this cycle.

Trust me–you want to go into battle with the likes of Rebecca. She is cunning, strategic, and has a huge heart. I am thrilled she agreed to the job because she knows the importance of what we at Texas Signal are trying to accomplish, and I’m honored she is in the fight with us.

Over the next few weeks, you will see changes that we’ve been working on over the past couple of months, and I want to first thank you, our readers, for being part of this journey, and for providing us with your support both in readership and funds.

Second, building and maintaining community is a big part of our next stage of growth. Want us to cover an important local group, or politician? Contact us! Want to help us with our amazing swag we will be releasing? Collaborate with us! Want to put radical Republicans’ feet to the fire? Write for us! We are all ears and do not pretend to know how to do it all because at the end of the day, in order to flip this state and keep it blue, it will take all of us with all of our different talents, contributing.

And just as importantly, you can help us shape the future of progressive media in Texas and support our work and staff, financially. Join our Patreon or email Editor@texassignalarchive.com for other ways to become a fiscal sponsor.

As the inimitable Barbara Jordan said at the 1976 Democratic National Convention: “For all its uncertainty, we cannot flee the future…we must address and master the future together.”

We’ll see y’all out there!

Best,

David Lee

President, Texas Signal
