20 for ’20: The candidates and organizations turning Texas blue

by | Sep 14, 2020 | 2020 Elections, Politics

We have just 50 days left in the 2020 election, and we need to do everything we can to make it count. That’s why, all week, we’ll be bringing you our 20 for ‘20, highlighting the candidates, causes and organizations working to turn Texas blue.

Today, we start with 5 organizations on the front lines that need your help. Sign up for a volunteer shift, order some merch or make a contribution to these five great groups today, and help them make Donald Trump a one-term president.

Texas Democratic Party

2020 was shaping up to be a historic election cycle in Texas long before COVID-19 roiled the country and claimed the lives of 200,000 of our neighbors. From launching their Cornyn War Room last year to building the largest coordinated campaign Texas has ever seen, the TDP is building the type of powerful organization that can create lasting change for Texans.

There are dozens of ways you can jump into the fight today. Head over to their Take Action page for more details.

Texas House Democratic Campaign Committee

Beating Donald Trump will be glorious, but even better will be capturing the 9 seats Democrats need to take back the majority in the State House. Enter HDCC, under the leadership of Rep. Celia Israel, which finds themselves newly resurgent at just the right time. By raising record money and recruiting incredible candidates across the state, securing the majority in the State House will help Democrats stop bad bills and put an end to gerrymandering as we know it in Texas.

Giddy up and give them a few bucks here.

Annie’s List

Texas women don’t make excuses, they get the job done. That’s why Annie’s List is dedicated to recruiting and training women to run for office across the state, from the legislature down to local offices. With a record number of incredible Texas women on the ballot in 2020, there’s never been a better time to get Annie’s back.

Powered by People

The new kid on the block for 2020 carries a mighty stick: When Beto O’Rourke dropped out of the Presidential race he pledged to do everything he could to turn Texas blue. That pledge has turned into Powered by People, a grassroots juggernaut working to rebuild the distributed field army that nearly propelled O’Rourke into the US Senate to help our allies take back the State House and organize all 254 counties in Texas.

Yee, and we can’t emphasize this enough, Haw. Learn how you can help out here.

Progress Texas

If you call yourself a Texas Progressive, you’ve probably seen the content from Progress Texas, a non-profit media organization promoting diverse voices in Texas media. They authored the “Flipping Texas” series proving that we’re a battleground state, and they are the folks that brought you the award-winning Humans Against Ted Cruz.

Check them out, and maybe pick up a coozie to keep your preferred beverage just the right temp on election night.
